Glossary terms for letter 'h'

Hacking The roughening of a concrete or plaster surface to provide a key new layers. Plasterers, Concreters

Hand Over The formal handing over of the building for occupation.

Hanging (Of) The fixing of a door or window to its surrounding frame. Window Installation

Head Contract A contract is signed between the contractor and the principal.

Head Contractor The principal contractor who has full responsibility including subcontracting for the completion of works.

Header A masonry unit laid with its longest length across the width of a wall.

Hob The brickwork which is placed above the floor level around a fireplace or the outside of a shower recess. Bricklayers / Brick Makers

Hoist A mechanical device which transports building material from the ground level to upper floors.

Hollow core door A flush door with airspace between the two outer facings. Carpenters & Joiners

Honeycombing A concrete defect, resulting in a rough surface due to air voids and aggregates showing. Concreters

Hoop Iron A strip of galvanized steel, which may be used for straps. Concreters
